This new version of Wordpress, which is only days away from being announced as “stable”, is a whirl of a lot cooler than the last one. A tester open to the public is available at twaites.com, and you really must go and see it: apart from the sleek new interface and far increased ease-of-use, there are also other gut-churningly thrilling features.

The Theme Selector has a cleaner layout and now provides images of both the current theme and the others available, to make decisions easier and, ultimately, to save more time. There is also a new section labelled “Current Theme Options” which, as shown below, allows you to do such stunning things as alter key images from within your browser.

   

The Users page also has a simpler layout, making it more attractive for new users and easier to navigate for us “veterans”. In fact, this revolutionary layout also takes away all the fun - because it is so easy to use that common things like “using your brain” seem to be made almost redundant.

And finally, the Import page. This is a brilliant feature which has only just been implemented, and it currently allows you to import all your posts from a Textpattern blog and also from a Blogger account, an online blog-hosting website. This would be extremely useful for someone wishing to migrate to a professional blog from a Blogger one but without losing their data, and overall I think this is the most impressive feature.
