The Application Most People Want Ported To Linux Is…
January 26, 2006 on 8:11 pm | In Linux |A very interesting survey conducted by Novell asked users what their most-wanted Windows application for Linux was, and now some preliminary results have appeared. What is this application that tons of people want ported? Adobe Photoshop? iTunes? Quicken? Nope, none of these - it was in fact Quickbooks.
As the article’s author correctly points out, there are no requests in the Top 10 list for web browsers, email managers, CD burners, instant messaging applications and so on - which is strong evidence that Linux is ready for the desktop.
Please take the survey so that we may end up with a more fine-tuned and accurate set of results - who knows, maybe the app you want ported will soon be because of it, so don’t miss this chance!

Amen to the QuickBooks request. I followed your link to Novell and weighed in.
That’s the one that gets me every time I prepare to switch. And from experience, running it in a VM gets tedious — fast.

Really? To tell you the truth, I’ve never even heard of QuickBooks!
I can understand though that if you use it often, switching to Linux would be difficult beause of incompatible software (or which aren’t as good/powerful).

[…] In fact, it wasn’t so long ago that I started a thread on the LinuxQuestions.org forums about how if Google did bring out an OS, this would not only benefit Google but also the Linux community. I wrote that, if Google were to code an OS based on UNIX (or, in particular, Linux), then Linux would also benefit because the applications would most probably work on it too. Thus, I saw applications like Photoshop, AutoCAD, and all the other popular ones coming over to Linux. Some members, however, were quick to beat me down, saying things like “Google has no interest in the home-user OS market” and that “Google was only seeking to control the web”. He who laughs last, laughs best. […]
